In much of science fiction, the hero works closely with a robot - and trusts them fully. They know what the robot is capable of. It's also the human that is the one to be reactive and adaptive; the robot usually just carries out orders. It's almost a surprise when they think for themselves - or at least, when they change plans on the fly.
